The mountain gave birth to a mouse? Two years after ordering the opening of an investigation against the Ben Gvir Bureau, and despite the fact that the Israel Police recommended closing the investigation files in the case involving the distribution of weapons licenses as early as January 2025, Attorney Baharav Mayara now accepts the police position and approves the closure of the files.
During the investigation of the affair, four employees of the Office of the Minister of National Security - including his legal advisor, Attorney David Bavli, who helped lead the firearms reform and personally approved over 700 weapons licenses - were questioned under Section 433 on serious suspicions of fraud and breach of trust.
The investigation was opened after Attorney Bahar Meyara ordered it following an advertisement in Haaretz and a petition submitted to the High Court of Justice.
According to the allegations, tens of thousands of weapons were illegally distributed to Israeli citizens, among others, by the minister's office and under his direction, and therefore the investigation focused on his immediate environment in order to try to prove a connection to Minister Ben-Gvir.
At the same time, the High Court rejected the petition and ruled that no weapons distributed in Ben-Gvir's weapons reform would be disqualified - and firearms reform continued to expand gun ownership throughout the country.
The minister's office is celebrating and claiming: "This is a huge victory for Minister Ben Gvir against the Advocate General, who saw how despite all the ongoing investigations and petitions in the High Court, the reform continues to expand and hundreds of cities and towns in Israel are joining the circle of gun rights.".
Minister Ben Gvir's advisor, Attorney David Bavli, said: "Two years ago, the Israel Police recommended closing the illusory investigation file that was opened at the direction of the criminal defense attorney. However, since then she has been trying to hold me by the throat to try and prevent me from running for all kinds of positions, for example for police defense attorney.".
""I am proud of each and every one of the 700 citizens who received weapons from me to protect and save the lives of all of us. I didn't count her then, and I don't count this criminal today either.
