Dr. Liran Tiosano from Hadassah Medical Center appointed chairman of the Israeli Retinal Society

Alongside extensive clinical activity, Dr. Tiosno's research activities focus on innovative imaging technologies, developing artificial intelligence-based models for diagnosing and predicting retinal diseases, and promoting personalized medicine.

Dr. Liran Tiosano, a cataract and retina surgeon at Hadassah Medical Center, has been elected chairman of the Israeli Retina Society, and will lead the activities of the professional body that brings together retina doctors in Israel in the coming years.

In his new role as chairman of the department, Dr. Tiosno is expected to lead the advancement of the field of retinal surgery and diseases in Israel, expanding research and clinical collaborations, training the future generation, and integrating advanced technologies and artificial intelligence-based tools in ophthalmology.

Dr. Tiosano brings clinical experience, first-class surgical skill, and a rich research background to the role.
As a cataract and retinal surgeon, Dr. Tiosano deals with the most complex cases and surgeries in ophthalmology, including cataract surgeries with advanced lens implantation and complex cataract surgeries, including treatment of cataract surgery complications and intraocular lens fixation using innovative technologies.

Complex retinal surgeries such as retinal detachment, macular holes, membranes on the retina, diabetic retinopathy complications, severe ocular trauma in complex traumatic cases in the posterior and anterior segments of the eye.

Dr. Tiosno completed his medical studies (MD) at the Goldman School of Medicine at Ben-Gurion University, along with a degree in Healthcare Administration (MHA). He completed his residency in ophthalmology at Hadassah Medical Center. Continuing his professional career, he undertook a fellowship in the field of retinal surgery at the University of Ottawa, in the capital of Canada. As part of his training, he performed a large number of cataract and retinal surgeries. He then trained at the prestigious Doheny Eye Institute at UCLA.

His research focused on advanced retinal imaging and the application of artificial intelligence to retinal diseases, with an emphasis on age-related macular degeneration.

Alongside his surgical and clinical work, Dr. Tiosano is an active researcher and senior lecturer in the research track at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He is an initiator and co-founder of medical technology ventures, has registered a patent in the field of retinal surgery, and has published dozens of scientific articles in leading international literature. His research work focuses on innovative imaging technologies, developing artificial intelligence-based models for diagnosing and predicting retinal diseases, and promoting personalized medicine.

Upon assuming the position, Dr. Tiosno said: "I am excited about the selection and am very committed to the position. In my view, key goals should be set to strengthen the professional community of retinal doctors in Israel, promote technological innovation, and make the most advanced surgical technologies and methods available to patients. I am confident that together with my colleagues in the Retina Department, we will move forward and open the field to new heights.".
