Baruch Dayan, the truth teller: At the Sheba Medical Center in Tel Hashomer, Capt. (res.) Yoel Asher, an officer in the Military Rabbinate's Identification and Burial Division, died tonight (Monday) at the age of 53, as a result of a complication following a medical procedure he underwent.
Asher, born in Switzerland, has lived in Netanya in recent years.
During the 'Iron Swords' War, he served for many months in active reserve service at Camp Shura, and was involved in efforts to identify the fallen and murdered from the October 7 attack.
Last February, his name made headlines after he was attacked by extremists as he entered Hagai Street in Bnei Brak with his vehicle and uniform - an event that at the time drew widespread condemnation, including from the mayors of Bnei Brak.
He left behind a wife, three married children and grandchildren.
His funeral procession will leave today at 5:00 PM from the Beit Midrash Vizhnitz at 12 Avraham Shapira Street in Netanya for the Shikun Vetykim Cemetery in the city, where he will be buried.
