An unusual moment occurred last night during the broadcast of the program 'The Patriots' on Channel 14: Presenter Yinon Magal held a special tribute in the studio in memory of American Senator Lindsey Graham, one of Israel's friends in the United States, who died unexpectedly on Saturday evening at the age of 71.
Magal told viewers that before making the decision, he contacted a rabbi to ask whether it was halachically possible to perform the gesture for a non-Jewish person, as he did not want to act without halachic clarification.
He said that he asked to know whether it was possible to say Kaddish for a non-Jewish person - and received permission to study the Mishnah and then say the Kaddish for the repose of the soul of "Lindsay Olin, son of Florence James Graham.".
Magal chose Mishnah 12 in Chapter 2 of Tractate Avot, and then stood in the ulpan, along with the other members of the panel, and said the Kaddish.
