Today (Monday), during renovation and resurfacing work at the tomb of Rabbi Nachman in the city of Uman, Ukraine, ahead of the arrival of thousands of pilgrims to Uman during Rosh Hashanah, workers were surprised to discover a mysterious underground opening.
The shaft is located right at the main entrance to the Rabbi Nachman Zion complex. It is a covered shaft that leads to a kind of cavity, about two meters deep and about 2 square meters in size.
The Breslov Union notes that it is not known when the shaft was dug or what its original purpose was.
The opening has been permanently covered since the current Zion complex was built and expanded in 1998.
The chairman of the Breslav Union in Uman, Rabbi Nathan Ben Nun, who is currently in Uman and closely supervising the renovations and preparations for Rosh Hashanah, took command of the event. To prevent any possibility of desecration of graves or inadvertent damage to the sanctity of the house of life, he ordered workers on the ground to stop work in this area and fill the entire pit with concrete immediately.
Breslov Union activists note that after the holidays, the large project is expected to begin in which the entire tomb complex of Rabbi Nachman will be rebuilt.
In the meantime, activists from the Breslov Union, along with a group of Breslov Hasidim who came especially to Uman, continue to work together on the continued preparations and renovations around the site, in order to prepare the area for the Hasidim's arrival for Rosh Hashanah.
