Eliyahu Treitzky, a one-year-old toddler who was evacuated from his caregiver's home last week after not waking up from his sleep, died this evening (Monday) at Sheba Hospital in Tel Hashomer.
Eliyahu z"l is the son of Reuven Treitzky, from the Abrahi Kollel 'Daat Shmuel' in the Haredi city of Modi'in Illit. His mother, Mrs. Deborah, is the daughter of Rabbi Shlomo Sokel, from the Abrahi Kollel 'Ateret Shlomo' in Modi'in Illit, and the son of the Gaon Rabbi Yisrael Sokel zt"l, head of the 'Beit Midrash Elyon' yeshiva in Bnei Brak, and the son-in-law of the Gaon Rabbi Asher Sternbuch, son of the Rav "E'ada" Grand Rabbi Sternbuch.
Last Wednesday, he lost consciousness on the way to the hospital. This evening, to his heart's content, he passed away.
The prosecutor's office initially delayed the release of the toddler's body from the hospital - and the Haredi community demanded the body be released, threatening to consider staging violent demonstrations tonight.
Through the activities of the ZAKA legal department, and with the assistance of Deputy Chief Rabbi Rami Barachihau, the rabbi of the Israel Police, and the office of MK Uri Maklev, his body was released for burial, without transfer to the Institute of Forensic Medicine and without the need for any further procedure.
Michael Gutwin, coordinator of the legal department at ZAKA: "From the moment we received the request, we acted quickly and decisively with all parties, out of a deep commitment to the honor of the deceased and the wishes of the family.
""Fortunately, after the intervention, we were able to release the body for burial without the need to transfer it to the institute. We will continue to stand by the families and assist as needed with sensitivity and professionalism.""
The funeral procession will leave tonight at 10:30 PM from the Shamgar Funeral Home in Jerusalem for Mount Hamunehot - where he will be buried.
