A mourning in Ashdod: Rabbi Avraham Altman, zt"l, Rosh Yeshiva 'Ateret Zvi' in the city, passed away today (Thursday) at the age of 94.
In recent days he has not been feeling well. Today he suddenly collapsed at home. Rescue forces called to the scene performed CPR, but unfortunately the Rosh Yeshivah passed away.
The late Rabbi Zacharias was born in Argentina on the 10th of Shevat 1932 to his father, Rabbi Chaim Altman, and his mother, Mrs. Scheindel, may God have mercy on him.
When he arrived in the Holy Land in the 1970s, he settled in the city of Ashdod, and established a matibta for students. Over the years, he established the 'Ateret Zvi' yeshiva in the 7th district - initially for Sephardic youth and later for hundreds of kollel abrachi.
Today, hundreds of avrechim study in the yeshiva. The Rosh Yeshiva zt"l has sent his followers around the world in order to maintain the kollel.
In addition to being a Torah scholar, he was one of the most important rabbis in the city of Ashdod.
He was blessed and left behind a blessed generation of righteous people, led by his son, the Gaon Rabbi Eliyahu Meir Altman, head of the Ateret Zvi kollel in Ashdod.
The funeral procession will leave tonight at 6:00 PM from the 'Ateret Zvi' Yeshiva Hall on Admor Megur Street, District 7 in Ashdod, on its way to Mount Hamunehot in Jerusalem, where he will be buried.
