Shin Bet chief David Zini told the ministers of the political-security cabinet that he may demand the renewal of the use of administrative detentions against Jewish extremists in Judea and Samaria - if attempts to deal with the violent incidents through other means are unsuccessful.
According to a report this evening on Ynet, Zini's remarks were made during a discussion that dealt with violent incidents by an extremist minority against Palestinians in Judea and Samaria.
So far, the head of the Shin Bet has opposed the return of administrative detentions, despite demands made by elements in the field, but during the discussion he made it clear that the option may arise again - if the other tools do not provide a solution.
The use of administrative detentions was discontinued by order of Defense Minister Yisrael Katz, shortly after he took office.
During the discussion, a confrontation developed between Zini and the Minister of Settlement and National Missions, Orit Struck.
According to a report by Michael Shemesh on Channel 13, Strok claimed that the discussions present a partial picture that does not give sufficient weight to Palestinian attacks against Jews in the region.
""There are daily incidents where Palestinians attack shepherds, injure them, endanger their lives, attack young boys who are doing nothing, just shepherding," she said. "You present it as if the Arabs are just a bunch of spectator birds, and only the settlers are the problem. Flood these attacks as well, deal with them and talk about them.".
Zini responded sharply: "The Palestinians are not burning Jewish homes here. You are disconnected. We need to see condemnations and denunciations from the entire leadership. This harms settlement and harms security.".
Strok replied that she consistently works against incidents of violence: "I condemn all the time. I also go to farms and talk to the youth.".
Zini asked her: "Where is Ginit?".
Strok replied: "On Network B, on the GLA, in every media outlet. Just listen.".
