The "Democrats" party submitted a request to the Central Elections Committee today (Monday) to disqualify the Otzma Yehudit party from running in the upcoming elections.
The request was filed on the grounds of "harming democracy and denying the existence of the State of Israel as a democratic state, and for inciting racism.".
The document submitted to the committee claims: "The representatives of Kahanism in the Israeli Knesset are no longer engaged in theory, but are using their governmental power and the immunity granted to crush the rule of law, violate judicial orders, fail to recognize the authority of the High Court of Justice, harm state security, and incite violent racism.".
As part of the request, the names of the candidates at the top of the list were specifically stated - Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir and Knesset Member Tali Gottlieb.
Otzma Yehudit responded:
""The Democratic Party is an anti-Semitic, anti-Israeli party. It is headed by a man who said that IDF soldiers kill babies as a hobby. Members of this party led the refusal to serve in the IDF on the evening of October 7, provided legal representation to the terrorists, and only today supported the anti-Semitic incitement film against the IDF. The fact that such a party is a member of the Knesset is a disgrace to the State of Israel.".
Several hours after a petition was filed to disqualify it, the Otzma Yehudit party turned to the Central Elections Committee this evening demanding that it prevent the "Democrats" list, led by Yair Golan, from running.
