David Malul, a Border Police soldier who was convicted of taking bribes in exchange for passing Palestinians through a security checkpoint without inspection, and of arms trafficking, was sentenced today (Thursday) to four years in prison.

Malul was convicted, according to his confession, in the indictment filed against him by the Police Investigations Department, according to which, while serving at the Ras Bidu checkpoint, he made contact with Palestinians and agreed with them that he would allow residents of the area, who did not have a permit, to pass through without inspection, in exchange for a payment.

According to the verdict, he received a total of about 25,000 shekels and allowed more than 200 people to pass through the checkpoint without being checked.

Malul also admitted that he took 2 police stun grenades and sold them to a Palestinian for 1,300 shekels.

The court noted in the verdict that the defendant acted "with full awareness of the security risk to the State of Israel and its residents and with disdain and indifference to the risk he caused by his actions.".

The court also emphasized: "The defendant did not cease his actions even after a murderous attack occurred at the Ramot Junction in September 2025, despite fears that he was the one who enabled the terrorists to pass through the checkpoint.".

Alongside Malul, who was convicted of accepting bribes, fraud, breach of trust, and arms trafficking, three additional Border Police officers were convicted in the case and their sentences will be announced later.
