Two veteran pharmacists were arrested on suspicion of stealing tens of thousands of medications intended for IDF soldiers and trading them privately on the black market.

The two, a pharmacist in charge at the Glilot camp and another pharmacist, are employed as external suppliers by the Ministry of Defense.

The arrests were made after an undercover investigation was conducted in recent months by Lieutenant Colonel Arazim in the Security Division of the Defense Establishment and the Dan Region Unit of the Military Police investigating. The investigation was also accompanied by the Enforcement Division of the Ministry of Health.

The investigation materials revealed that the pharmacists fraudulently took tens of thousands of medications intended for IDF soldiers, some of them prescription drugs, and systematically traded them on the 'black market', while pocketing sums of money amounting to tens of thousands of shekels.

Trafficking in medications that cannot be used without a medical prescription and require additional tests before taking them poses a danger to public health.

When the investigation became public, the two pharmacists were arrested at the Glilot camp and brought for questioning at the Arazim police station on suspicion of theft by a licensed person, receiving something under aggravated circumstances, reckless and negligent acts, and other offenses according to the Pharmacists' Ordinance.

An extension of their detention will later be requested at the Tel Aviv Magistrate's Court.

At the same time, additional suspects were detained for questioning by the investigating units.

The investigating military police are interrogating additional people involved in the case, on suspicion of theft by an authorized person and aiding and abetting the fraudulent receipt of something under aggravated circumstances, as well as other offenses associated with the case.

Their case is being handled by the military prosecution.
