An investigation into a case of violence against a public transportation driver in the Haredi city of Modi'in Illit led the Shi'ite District police to a suspect, an 18-year-old marginalized boy - who was arrested last night for questioning.

The arrest was made after a public transportation driver reported last Wednesday after midnight that he had been attacked by several young people while traveling on the line from Bnei Brak to Modi'in Illit, and as a result, he required medical treatment for injuries to his body.

Immediately upon receiving the report, investigators at the Modi'in Illit police station began an investigation and the driver's testimony was collected.

According to his description and footage from the bus camera, the driver was beaten by a young suspect who managed to break through the protective barrier, punched the driver, kicked him in the body, and only then left the scene along with passersby who watched what was happening and did not lift a finger to help the driver or stop the act of violence.

As part of and during the investigation, investigators carried out a variety of actions to reveal the identities and locations of those involved.

After several attempts to locate him at his place of residence, last night (Monday) evening, the suspect turned himself in at the police station in Bnei Brak.

The suspect in the act was transferred for questioning at Modi'in Illit police station for the offenses of assaulting a public servant and assault causing actual damage.

At the end of his interrogation tonight, he was imprisoned.

This morning, the suspect was brought before the court for a hearing on his case, and at the end, his detention was extended by 3 days at the request of the police, in order to continue and complete the investigation.

The investigation into the case is ongoing.
