The report of the inter-ministerial team examining the issuance of parking badges for the disabled stipulates a series of drastic steps - which will lead to the re-screening of hundreds of thousands of badges.

This was after it was found that about a third of the notes were issued illegally and are held by healthy people - many of whom are ultra-Orthodox.

A report published today (Tuesday) on Channel 13 determined that the licensing authority had become a "rubber stamp," with doctors from external providers approving 701,300 applications in an average of a minute and a half per application - based on documents alone and without a physical examination.

The report states: "The licensing authority does not have the appropriate tools, the necessary expertise, and the manpower to determine a person's degree of disability and their functional status.".

According to estimates by the Ministry of Transportation, approximately 150,000 tags - about a third of all tags approved in recent years - were issued illegally.

According to data from the Licensing Authority, by the end of 2027, approximately 133,000 tags (approximately 251,000 of all tags) will expire - and they will be forced to submit an application according to the new and stricter criteria.

According to the report's recommendations, a re-examination of all badges will be carried out, and approximately 300,000 badges that were issued permanently will be gradually canceled (up to 75,000 per year), and their owners will be required to re-apply according to the stricter criteria.

In addition, approximately 133,000 tags that expire by the end of 2027 will not be automatically renewed.
