The girl Yael Rivka Bezalel, a 3-year-old girl from the Ramot neighborhood in Jerusalem, died today (Wednesday) at the Shaarei Tzedek Medical Center - two weeks after being hospitalized while sedated and on a ventilator, after choking on a grape she ate at home.
Yael is the daughter of Yitzhak and Hannah Bezalel.
For the past two weeks, she was hospitalized following the choking incident, until she passed away this morning.
The tragedy struck the family at a particularly difficult time: just a week before Yael's older sister's wedding.
Alongside preparations for the wedding, the family is now forced to accompany their little daughter to her grave.
Yael Rivka's funeral left at 4:00 PM from the Shamgar Funeral Home in Jerusalem. She will be laid to rest in her Yemenite section on Mount Hamunehot.
Moshe Wiener, Ariel Ben-David and Moishe Adler, United Hatzalah paramedics who were called to the family's home, said: "When we arrived at the scene, we were told that the girl had choked while eating grapes. We performed CPR to save her life with the assistance of a paramedic who extracted a grape from her trachea. She was then evacuated to continue receiving medical treatment at Shaare Zedek Hospital in serious condition.".
