MK Sharan Haskel's spokesman announced in the past 24 hours that he is ending his role. The move was agreed upon in advance, as is customary after a position in the government ends.
According to a report by Michael Shemesh on Channel 13, the background to his departure was allegations that his intellect led him to provide false information to journalists and media personnel.
However, the spokesman vigorously denied the report in a post he published on Facebook: "Contrary to what Michal Shemesh said tonight, I announced my departure some time ago, Sharan never ordered or asked me to lie to anyone - and anyone who knows me knows that even if she had asked, it wouldn't have happened - and Shemesh lied when he said he contacted me for a response and I refused to answer, because he didn't contact me.".
""A little disappointing. But even this silly episode won't change the fact that I'm finishing with a tremendous sense of professional satisfaction and continuous achievements. I made and was a partner in moves that I'm very proud of. Chief among them, that I took an active part in thwarting a law that goes against everything I believe in.
""I am grateful for the opportunity I was given, and for all the wonderful things I was able to take part in, both on a professional and personal level. For the opportunity to work with first-class journalists abroad and in Israel. People who have become friends. For the conversations. For the support. Thank you all. Except for the sun.".
Haskel testified on Sunday at the police's Lahav 433 unit, as part of the investigation that opened into the selection process for the state comptroller. The investigation began after Attorney Gali Baharav Mayara and State Attorney Amit Isman instructed to examine whether Haskel or the Likud submitted a false affidavit to the High Court.
