A shock to the Belza Hasidim community in Ashdod: This morning (Friday), the late Rabbi Eliyahu Azriel Greenwald passed away suddenly, at the age of 55.
The deceased suddenly collapsed from cardiac arrest. His son, who was by his side, performed CPR on him, but due to a heart attack, he died.
He was born on 4 Elul 5771, to his father, the Gaon Rabbi Chaim Greenwald, zt"l, and to his mother, Mrs. Sarah, daughter of the late Rabbi Elazar Halevi Deutsch, z"l, of the elders of the Belz Hasidic community.
In 1976, at the age of 5, he immigrated with his family to live in Israel. As a child, he was educated in his father's home, who was careful not to send his children to Talmud Torah but to study with them personally. In his youth, he entered to study at the large Belza Yeshiva on Agrippa Street in Jerusalem.
After his marriage to his wife, the daughter of Rabbi Berel Yaakovovich, he moved to live in the city of Ashdod.
The deceased held his prayers at the Beit Pinchas seminary in Belza in the 7th district. For his living, he made tefillin houses and during the Holy Days served as an expert tapper at the Beit Pinchas seminary.
He left behind a magnificent and extensive family.
His funeral procession will leave today at 2:00 PM from his home on Yanai Street in District 7 in Ashdod, via the Beit Pinchas seminary in the city, and at 3:00 PM it will arrive at the Ashdod cemetery, where he will be buried in the "Kahel Maziqi Hadat" section.
