Following the widespread public outcry created by the publication of his conversation with the heads of the Mir Yeshiva, in which he expressed a strong and unusual stance against elements in the government and the national religious public, Maran HaGard Lando issued a clarification of the matter, in his own voice.
In his remarks last night at a special gathering of community rabbis organized by the 'Union of Yeshiva Students', the Maran Rosh Ha-Yeshiva said: "In the days between, we may encounter people who differ from our way of life. It is imperative to be careful of any ideological arguments with them. Our views are clear to us from our rabbis from the rocks of the land whose waters we drink, and in particular, we must be very careful of arguments with people who, under the cover of their faith, persecute the Torah and the lore, and are unable to understand and deepen our views, which was the view of our great rabbis, the Chazon Ish and the Rabbi of Brisk, may the blessed memory of the righteous be upon him.".
He added: "And as was proven in the last 24 hours when things I said in a private conversation were published, and in hatred of my people, the countries treated things with distortion and complete lack of understanding!".
In a recording of the conversation with the heads of the Mir Yeshiva, Maran HaGard Lando is heard saying: "The decrees are from someone else. The wicked here, what can be done? What can be done... There are wicked... and those who wear knitted kippahs, no less than them. I'm talking about the knitted kippahs that require people to go, if the state... I would ask them, for their system, they have no system at all, for their stupidity, if the state sends people, soldiers, for the honor of the state, and they kill people, is that also permissible? Real murder. So they incite murder, that's what they do. They wage wars not only for the sake of salvation, for the honor of the state.".
