The Bnei Brak Municipality is working to implement the directive of the city's rabbis, who instruct that men and women must be completely separated on the sidewalks of Shlomo Hamelech and Ezra streets.
According to a report by Yoeli Barim on Channel 13, as part of the move, the municipality will make physical changes to the public space, including placing signage and separating the two sidewalks, to ensure that men and women do not walk on the same path.
The official instruction issued to the public states that all residents, young and old, should be warned and educated to strictly adhere to this directive.
The need for separation arose due to these streets being a hub of mass traffic of wedding and event attendees at halls located on these streets.
City officials note that this is a plan that was formulated several years ago. According to them, the move is not limited to these streets, and the hand is still inclined to expand the separation to other crowded streets, similar to what is happening in other Haredi concentrations.
The municipality told Channel 13: "The letter from the city's rabbis is very clear and speaks for itself. The public in the city, who trust in obedience to the great men of Israel and listen to their words, will fulfill their request.".
