Firefighters from the Binyamin area worked this afternoon (Thursday) at the scene of a fire that broke out near a kindergarten and a residential building in the Haredi city of Modi'in Illit.

The crews that arrived at the scene reported heavy smoke rising from the bottom of the building, and near the center of the fire was a kindergarten.

The forces immediately began evacuating the kindergarten, and at the same time worked to evacuate the building, which was also filled with thick smoke.

Additional crews worked to extinguish the fire, which was at the bottom of the building.

Lahav Barak Grobi, the incident commander, spoke about the drama: "This is a significant incident in which we had to evacuate a kindergarten due to concerns that the fire would spread to the kindergarten building, and at the same time conduct scans of the residential building and take action to extinguish the fire.

We acted in an orderly manner, and even when the kindergarten teacher reported one of the children missing, we immediately began searching and quickly found him.
"The crews worked to extinguish the source of the fire, and the fire was brought under control. Damage was caused to the building's surroundings.""
