The Ministry of Diaspora and the Fight against Anti-Semitism published a special report indicating that the Iranian regime operates dozens of fake accounts that impersonate Israeli accounts and international media sites.
According to the document, the trend began during the period of Operations 'Roar of the Lion' and 'Am Kalavi' and expanded even further, with the aim of spreading false propaganda, exaggerating the damage of the war, and creating demoralization among the public in Israel and around the world.
The ministry noted that the main messages included claims about a high number of deaths in Israel, the distribution of images of destruction and devastation, reports about the deaths of senior officials and professionals, about a leadership crisis, as well as about mass departures from Israel.
Some of the accounts have accumulated hundreds of thousands of followers and millions of views, comments and shares, and have even been quoted in media outlets around the world.
The report also shows that the X network serves as a central hub for distributing content due to the lack of strict control mechanisms, while on Facebook and Instagram the scope of the phenomenon is more limited.
The ministry claims that artificial intelligence was also used to create fake visual documentation and distort reality by combining real documentation with inflated data.
According to the report, the method is based on impersonating soldiers, university employees, and Israeli citizens, using profiles that work in coordination and share information with each other to increase their credibility and make them more difficult to block.
In addition, "news" networks with international names were identified, including a profile called American News, which, according to the ministry, published hundreds of AI videos depicting destruction in Israel and the United States.
Minister of Diaspora and the Fight against Anti-Semitism, Amichai Shikli, commented on the revelation: "Alongside the delegitimization efforts that Iran is promoting against Israel worldwide, the current study reveals a systematic and coordinated Iranian attempt to influence public opinion in Israel by infiltrating the internal Israeli discourse online. Through fake accounts impersonating Israelis, Iranian elements are working to undermine public trust, create demoralization, and deepen divisions in Israeli society.".
""These attempts will not succeed in breaking the spirit of the people of Israel, who have proven time and again their resilience even in the most difficult hours. Alongside the exposure and prevention activities, I call on the public to act with vigilance and responsibility regarding the information they consume and share. We will continue to monitor, expose and prevent hostile influence activities in cooperation with all relevant parties. The information that was exposed has been passed on to the authorized security agencies for further processing.".
