The consumer price index fell by 0.31% in May; housing prices also fell.

Data from the Central Bureau of Statistics shows that the consumer price index decreased by 0.31% in May compared to April 2026.

Inflation remained unchanged at 1.9%.

Notable price decreases were recorded in May in the fresh fruit section, which fell by 4.9%, transportation, which fell by 2.7%, and furniture and home equipment, which fell by 0.1%. Notable price increases were recorded in the clothing and cultural and entertainment events sectors, which rose by 1.9% and 1.1%, respectively.

Apartment prices in transactions carried out in April and at the end of March decreased by 0.3%, relative to sales in February and early March. A breakdown by district shows that the price decrease in the Jerusalem area is 2%, in Haifa - 1.9%, in the Southern District - 0.9%, and in the Northern District - 0.2%. In contrast, prices in the center increased by 0.2% and in Tel Aviv by 0.7%.

On the other hand, there was an increase in rent: tenants who renewed their contract in the same apartment paid 2.5% more, while new tenants paid 6.8% more compared to their predecessors.
