Under the heading "The Patriots - The End": Prof. Moshe Cohen Elia announced this morning (Sunday) that he will end his appearances on Channel 14, including his participation in the program "The Patriots," after a long period in which he served as a panelist and legal commentator.
According to him, the decision was made following a disagreement with the channel's management regarding the appeal to President Trump to impose sanctions on senior officials in the Israeli judicial system - because of the Netanyahu trial.
In his statement, Cohen Elia noted that Channel 14 has played a significant role in changing public discourse in recent years and exposing media processes. "In the pages of the history of the people of Israel, Channel 14 will have an important place in the change in consciousness that the new hegemony has undergone in recent years and in exposing the consciousness engineering of the channels of the old hegemony.".
He added that the show "The Patriots" was central to this and that the experience of working on the channel was positive.
According to him, the main controversy revolves around the petition he initiated, which he says has received broad support among the coalition's supporters. He claims that the channel's presenters and panelists' position on the issue was significantly different from that of a large part of the public. "While eighty percent of all coalition supporters supported the petition, the vast majority of the presenters and panelists on the channel opposed it. This is a particularly extreme gap that reflects the gap between the media elites and the masses.".
Cohen Eliya added that he sees this gap as an expression of differences between public positions and positions in the media, and noted that he intends to continue to act in the public arena in other ways.
According to him, his activities will focus on leading an ideological line and building new public frameworks.
