Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Religious Services Yariv Levin appointed, with the consent of the Rishon LeZion, Rabbi David Yosef
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Religious Services Yariv Levin decided, with the consent of Rishon LeZion Rabbi David Yosef, to appoint Rabbi Eyal Yosef as the director of the rabbinical courts.
This followed a process in which the minister interviewed several candidates.
Rabbi Yosef is the Av Beit Din of Tel Aviv, with extensive knowledge of the system of religious courts. Over the years, he has served in a long line of positions. Among other things, he served as the head of the panel and a member of several religious courts, as a judge on the Tel Aviv dedication panel, as a member of the Dayanim representation, as a member of the Ethics Committee for Dayanim, as a member of the Conversion Court and as a member of the Dayanim Examination Committee.
The announcement of the appointment stated that "his rich experience gives him a very broad and extraordinary view of the work of the courts, their needs and the problems that require solutions in the various fields of work. Rabbi Yosef presented a well-organized Mishnah and a vision for the development of the court system. The Minister realized that his familiarity with the system, his extensive experience and the professional knowledge he has accumulated, will enable him to quickly implement this vision.".
Apart from the identical last names, there is no family connection between the Rishon LeZion Rabbi David Yosef and the Dayan Rabbi Eyal Yosef.
The minister spoke with Rabbi Yosef and wished him success in his position. "The minister warmly thanks Rabbi Eli Ben Dahan, the outgoing director of the rabbinical courts, for his excellent work over the years," the statement said.
The Rishon LeZion, President of the Grand Beit Din, Rabbi David Yosef, congratulated the appointment: "This is a good day for the court system. Rabbi Eyal Yosef is a scholar of great stature, who combines comprehensive halachic knowledge with a deep practical understanding of the needs of the dayanim and the public. This is a most worthy appointment, and I am confident that under his leadership the system will continue to develop, become more efficient, and sanctify the name of heaven. The Rishon LeZion congratulated the outgoing CEO, Rabbi Eli Ben Dahan, for his blessed work and many years of dedication to the court system.".
