During drilling to establish an underground IDF barrier in the Gaza Strip, dozens of new tunnels were uncovered that cross from the Hamas side to the Israeli side - under the 'Yellow Line'.
According to a report this evening (Tuesday) by Yinon Shalom Yatach, the military correspondent for the i24 channel, the IDF is expected to soon complete the construction of a multi-layered barrier along the 'Yellow Line'.
The new barrier is built from thousands of underground drillings, a deep trench, embankments and earthen mounds, a line of outposts and security axes.
The Southern Command is taking advantage of the calm in the Strip - as a secondary arena - to drill every few meters along the entire Yellow Line. So far, most of the barrier, which was built using thousands of different drills, has been completed.
According to the report, during the drilling, dozens of new Hamas tunnels were discovered that cross the Israeli side of the Yellow Line in the Gaza Strip. These tunnels were added to the bank of engineering targets on the way to sealing.
A source claims: "Thanks to the new method, we manage to destroy thousands of meters every week.".
The assessment in Israel is that the terrorist organization recently realized that the IDF was drilling along the 'Yellow Line' to locate tunnels, and began to collapse or build high walls underground - so that the IDF would not damage or locate the existing tunnels on the Hamas side.
A source in the Southern Command estimates that construction of the barrier along the entire Strip will be completed within a few months.
